MUSIC

Sephardic and Mizrahi communities boast rich musical traditions that date back centuries. Borrowing from, intertwining with, and influencing local Arab, Turkish, Balkan, and Spanish musical trends, Sephardic and Mizrahi music features devotional poetry, upbeat tunes and melodies, a mix of western and Middle Eastern instruments, and a range of powerful vocals. Sephardic music often features Ladino, or Judeo-Spanish (a mix of Spanish and Hebrew), and elements of both musical traditions can be found in the synagogues, streets, and venues of Los Angeles.
