Deli Gone Vegan

Mort and Betty’s

In 2017, Chef Megan Tucker embarked on a mission to create a small business that would not only support the establishment of a farmed animal sanctuary but also pay homage to her grandparents, Morton and Betty (Bethel Kotzen) Sobel. Inspired by their resilience and Lithuanian immigrant roots, Chef Megan's vision took shape as the first all-vegan Jewish deli.

At Mort and Betty’s, Chef Megan celebrates local produce, infusing traditional spices and aromatics into vegetables to reimagine beloved deli classics. From corned beets and carrot lox to mushroom pastrami and white carrot whitefish salad, the menu caters to both vegans and omnivores alike. These innovative creations find their way into deli platters, custom bagel sandwiches, mushroom brisket kreplach, challah dogs, hot pastrami sandwiches, and corned beet Reuben, alongside an array of mouthwatering items like babka, tacos, latkes, knishes, slaw, and salads.

Chickpea flour replaces wheat flour for gluten-free latkes, while house-fermented shiitake "aminos" offer a soy-free alternative to traditional condiments. Organic, canola- and palm oil-free ingredients are predominantly used, with Kosher wine, organic sugar, and ethically produced chocolate enhancing the flavors.

Beyond being a haven for delectable cuisine, Mort and Betty’s embodies the transformative power of vegan fare. Chef Megan's vision seamlessly merges tradition with innovation, inviting patrons to embark on a compassionate and sustainable culinary journey.
