I’ll Have What She’s Having was originally produced by the Skirball Cultural Center in partnership with Jewish American Heritage Month under the name Who Doesn’t Love a Deli. We are proud to share and bring you more on the great place of importance Los Angeles Jewish Delis play in our great city.

I’LL HAVE WHAT SHE’S HAVING explores the fascinating fusion of food born from the Jewish immigration story. As new arrivals to the United States sought to make a living, they often turned to selling food. Jewish immigrants blended their European regional food traditions with local ingredients, giving rise to an entirely new American Jewish culinary phenomenon. From classic dishes like matzo ball soup and pastrami sandwiches to inventive creations influenced by their new surroundings, Jewish delis became cherished establishments that embodied adaptation, resilience, and cultural exchange.

In Los Angeles, these delis not only satisfied appetites but also served as gathering places, fostering community and playing an integral role in the civic life of the city. Join us as we embark on a flavorful journey through the history and impact of many of our city's iconic delis, including their special significance within the vibrant tapestry of Los Angeles
